Writer-director Curtis Johnson seems to view compassionately the young militants who make up the loose network of public speakers, protest organizers, and lab-animal liberators the U.S. government has labeled the number one domestic terrorist threat. One activist notes that the FBI doesn't view anti-abortion zealots in quite the same light, but the right-makes-might argument certainly cuts both ways - something pondered by commentators as varied as Christopher Hitchens, Margot Kidder, a couple of porn twins, and Greenpeace cofounder Paul Watson, whose tactics (especially with his whale-friendly See Shepherd outfit) have been copied and sometimes distorted by youngsters at times oblivious to long-range consequences, let alone the PR effect, on average Americans.

In this snappily edited, shockingly well balanced (and occasionally gruesome) overview, celebrities talk a little, but more space is given to the voices of Josh Harper and Kevin Kjonaas, arrested under the USA PATRIOT Act for doing little more than verbally advocating radical action to stop cruel animal testing. The boys are obnoxious in their moral certainty, but their insight into possible ramifications in the wider political arena brings up important points about where America is headed especially where threats to unchecked corporate dominion are concerned.

The title Your Mommy Kills Animals is taken from a controversial comic book put out by People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. But the animal-rights activists featured here make PETA look like mere cat-kickers by comparison; in fact, the best-known advocacy group is accused of killing far more creatures than it rescues, earning it the description, from one salty observer (Richard Pryor's widow, Jennifer), as "just another En-fucking-ron."

Keep posting bullshit like this and i guarantee a user drop off, yes western civilization treats animals like shit but none of these idiots will ever accomplish anything. Animal treatment in the west is another effect of capitalism gone wild. Posting this piece of shit video is just distracting.

Wow, well, this video is just a trailer for the film. I've seen it. We aren't condoning or condemning the people or tactics in this film, but (if this was the full film) we'd be aiming to offer a perspective on this issue that you could simply not get from common mainstream news outlets. Everyone has heard perspectives condemning them without much analysis. This film takes a more sympathetic approach in the hopes of finding some understanding, even if the viewer doesn't agree with their tactics.

We have documentaries on the site about Ron Paul as well as the right-wing "patriots" militia movements, which documents both of these movements and provides first-hand accounts and perspective, without making judgements on the content. You can think of us as independent media with a bit of the ACLU.

Ps thanks for commenting. We will certainly keep these thoughts in mind.

I think the cause goes beyond capitalist economics and touches more profoundly on our culture's vision (see Ishmael or Beyond Civilization by Daniel Quinn for excellent analysis) but industrial capitalism has certainly amplified and sped up our culture's exploitation of animals without much humanitarian concern. When the world was made for man, and man was meant to conquer and rule it, people seem to think we can treat the natural world any way we please.

I personally hate the way animals are treated, but it's hard for me to tolerate most vegans and anyone stupid enough to fall for petas bullshit. They offer no real world solution, you can't simply guilt trip everyone into not eating meet. I only buy meet from my local farmers market and never eat at chain restaurants, from a real world perspective pushing people to eat locally will have more of an impact than forcing people via lies and misinformation to not eat meet. I actually liked peta when they only attacked the fur industry, but now they're just a pack of blisteringly stupid assholes.

Sorry for my orignal reaction, but i like this site a lot so the thought of you guys turning into adbusters is scary (they're better now then a year ago). My generations biggest enemy is apathy and most of us have a very short attention span, so spreading us thin with pet causes will just ruin what little focus we have.

Do the causes go beyond capitalism? one must wonder what the world would be like without advertising, corporate owned media, capitalism and our disgusting plutocracy.
